The image to the left is of the nine Scottsboro Boys with their esteemed attorney, Samuel Leibowitz. Although racial issues made it virtually impossible for the African Americans to receive a fair trial, having a northerner from New York, who was a Jew, represent them even resulted in a more difficult situation to find a lack of biasness by the jury. Finally, since there was support of the Nine by the Communist Party, which paid individuals associated with their defense, the court case was viewed as an attempt by the north, supported by leftists, to overthrow or at least threaten the traditions of the south.
