We were planned to participate in career cruising today, which your student can explain. However, I was informed after school Thursday that the computers were not functioning properly to allow us to participate at this time. Thus, your student will participate in the career cruising second semester.
Today, students watched The Lost Battalion, a movie that focuses on an actual battle situation involving the AEF, American Expeditionary Force, during the First World War. You could assist your student by asking them about the following three areas: (1) What was it like to be within the infantry?; (2) How did ethnicity impact the AEF?; and (3) What was the role of Major Charles Whittlesey in the film?
On Wednesday, your student will compose an essay where being able to answer the above three questions will be very helpful.
Once again, thanks for being an active member in the team to teach your student.
Tuesday, 11.22.11
Students continued and finished The Lost Battalion. Students have no homework.
Wednesday, 11.23.11
I was absent today; thus, your student did not compose an essay. In lieu of the essay, they watched a film about the Scopes Trial, which focused on a teacher in Tennessee instructing students about the theory of evolution. Please discuss this topic with your student. Also, ask them about the actions of the attorneys and whether "truth" prevailed in the trial.
They have no homework over Thanksgiving break.
